Our district currently has 10 intersections that are rated as a D or worse which can severely limit the ability for any economic development in these areas because of mandatory restrictions that are put in place when significant traffic congestion occurs. The amount of failing intersections in our area makes our district one of the worst in the county. This lack of focus on transportation has significantly affected the quality of life in our community and has greatly hurt economic growth through construction moratoriums that can stop construction of new job centers. Residents deserve a councilmember who will take a comprehensive look at congestion.
As your Councilman I will:
1. Take an “all of the above” approach to evaluate ways to alleviate congestion.
2. Work with the Hogan Administration to leverage assets such as traffic studies on state and county intersections to ensure that the latest techniques are being used like smart signaling which makes traffic lights more responsive to traffic flows so that green lights are held longer to reduce congestion at intersections during peak periods.
3. Fight to include our transportation needs in our county’s request for state and federal funding.
